What is the zayin? The zayin is a handheld tool.
The zayin was an implement used in cultivation. Whether it was used to blaze a trail or clear the land for agriculture endeavors, the preparation of the field, the planting of the seed, and producing a harvest was dependent on this labor-saving device. The zayin was a versatile tool. It was also a scepter of authority. It was a rod used as a weapon.

What does the zayin remind us about our Lord and savior? He prepared the way for our victory. Jesus was anointed for his mission as God’s holy lamb to be the sacrificial offering for the sins of Adam’s fallen race. His groundbreaking mission was to live a flawless life, die a substitutionary death, and rise again to a victorious resurrection.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man, For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. (Hebrews 2:9–10)
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:5, 10)
